Man Charged With Car Break-Ins During Youth Sports Games

The man stole a credit card and used it to buy booze, state police said.

SOMERS, CT — A homeless man has been charged with several crimes for rummaging through vehicles of parents watching youth sports, an arrest report indicates.

The thefts took place just after 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the fields behind the Somers firehouse, state police said.

In one instance, a woman's wallet was stolen out of her purse while she was attending her child's game, state police said. The suspect, 44-year-old Jonathan Lawlor, who state police said is homeless, was tracked down at the Windsor Locks Motel 6 after he used the card at two different liquor stores in Enfield, according to an arrest report.

He is accused of a similar crime two weekends earlier at Somers Wine and Liquor, state police said.

He was charged with three counts of sixth-degree larceny, two counts of the illegal use of a credit card, and second-degree forgery.

State police reiterated the call for residents to lock their doors when not with their vehicles, especially considering the crimes "can happen anywhere and at anytime."
