Man Charged in Ellington Liquor Store Burglary

The man accused of breaking into an Ellington Liquor store was the boyfriend of am employee, state police said.

ELLINGTON, CT — An Ellington man is facing four criminal charges for s break-in at a Main Street liquor establishment where his girlfriend was employed, state police said.

At 3:23 a.m. on Monday, troopers went to Mark's Country Wine & Liquors, 12 Main St., after an alarm went off, according to an arrest report.

A front window had been smashed out and a man was seen on surveillance video heading directly to where money was hidden, taking something and then exiting through a back door, according to an arrest report.

The owner of the business said the resembled that of a recently hired employee's boyfriend, who was known to "hang around" at the end of her shift and watch her count money.

Glass fragments were found in the suspect's vehicle and a cash box, bank slips and a bag containing $3,840 was found in his home, according to an arrest report.

The suspect was identified as David Kirychuk, 31, of Pinney Street, Ellington. He was charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree larceny and interfering with an officer, according to an arrest report.
