Man Charged for Plotting Dirt Bike Thefts in Somers: Warrant

The man was arrested on Friday.

SOMERS, CT — A Springfield man used a Craigslist ad to case a Somers residence in an effort to steal dirt bikes, state police said.

Alexander Garcia, 25, of Springfield, MA, was charged on Friday with conspiracy for both second-degree burglary and first-degree burglary, state police said. He was booked on a $60,000 bond, state police said.

A Stafford Road resident told police he had placed an ad on Craigslist for a dirt bike he and his son were selling after an upgrade, according to an arrest report.

He had exchanged information with Garcia, who claimed he was interested in the purchase, according to a warrant.

Feeling suspicious, the resident moved the bikes to a different spot on the property and locked, according to a warrant. While this was going on, the resident saw a suspicious car drive by and turn around at a neighboring field, according to a warrant.

The car was traced to Garcia, state police said.
