Man Enters Plea in 2015 Ellington Fatal Crash Case

A passenger was killed in the Route 83 crash.

ELLINGTON, CT — A man involved in a fatal 2015 drunken driving crash on an Ellington road has entered no contest pleas for two charges — second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle and witness tampering for a drunken driving crash in 2015 that claimed the life of a passenger in his vehicle, court records indicate.

Nathan Coles, 25, is due back in court on Sept. 29, according to court records.

Coles was operating a vehicle that went out of control on Route 83 near Mountain Street in Ellington around 12:31 a.m. on Oct. 20, 2015.

A passenger, Kayla Coffin-Houston, 25, of the North Grosvenordale section of Thompson, was thrown from the vehicle, which overturned and rolled on top of her. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Coles was airlifted by LifeStar helicopter to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries, police said.
