Clarkson University, Potsdam NY

  • Hayden A. Barrett of Somers, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, was named to the Dean's List for the spring 2022 semester at Clarkson University. Dean's List students must achieve a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and also carry at least 14 credit hours.

  • On Sunday, May 22, Curry College honored 661 graduates from the Class of 2022 in its 142nd commencement celebration. The ceremony was held at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Mass., with family members, friends, alumni, faculty, and staff, among other Curry community members in attendance. Graduates from Ellington were Kaitlyn Bartlett and Hannah Mozzer.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Eastern Connecticut State University student Natalie Devlin of Somers was a recipient of the 2022 Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award. The Barnard Award is the premier academic recognition of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System (CSCU) and is sponsored by the CSCU Foundation. Each year it recognizes 12 outstanding undergraduates from Connecticut's four state universities - Central, Eastern, Southern and Western. As an English major with a concentration in Secondary Education and a minor in History, Devlin has maintained a 3.99 GPA over four years, while also studying abroad at James Cook University in Australia in fall 2019. She has been named the recipient of the English Department's Award for Academic Excellence; served as vice president of Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society; is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society; and has been a recipient of the Academic Excellence Scholarship for the past four years. Devlin's campus activities include serving as secretary of the Best Buddies Club and as a student ambassador for Eastern, conducting student tour guides at open houses and Accepted Students Days; and serving as a teaching assistant and writing tutor.
  • More than 300 Eastern Connecticut State University students were recognized for scholarly excellence at the conclusion of the spring 2022 semester. Given by academic departments across the university, the recognitions included induction into 15 academic honor societies, scholarship awards and departmental distinctions. Among those honored were several Ellington and Somers residents. Nicholas Ford of Ellington, a junior who majors in music, was awarded the David A. and Martha R. Yutzey Endowed Music Fund at the Music Program's Honors Recital & Awards Ceremony on April 24 in the Fine Arts Instructional Center Concert Hall. Joel Hany of Ellington, a senior who majors in health sciences, was inducted into the Phi Theta Delta honor society for health sciences at the sixth annual Health Sciences Awards Ceremony on April 21 in the Science Building. Andrew Raymond of Ellington, a junior who majors in history, was inducted into the Alpha Mu Alpha chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta national history honor society at the Department of History's annual induction on April 29 in the Dr. David G. Carter Science Building. Alec Levesque of Somers, a first-year student who majors in health sciences, was recognized as an Outstanding First-Year Student at the sixth annual Health Sciences Awards Ceremony on April 21 in the Science Building. Kilee Nutbrown of Somers, a junior who majors in environmental earth science, was inducted into Eastern's Theta Upsilon chapter of the Sigma Gamma Epsilon national honor society for earth sciences and received the Soft Rock Geology Recognition and Junior Academic Excellence awards at the Department of Environmental Earth Science's annual awards event on April 28 in the Science Building. Jonathan Shooner of Somers, a senior who majors in computer science, was inducted into the Upsilon Pi Epsilon international honor society for computing and information disciplines on April 27 in the J. Eugene Smith Library.

Lasell University, Newton MA

  • Lisa Pare is a member of the Lasell University Class of 2022. Undergraduate degree recipients were honored at an on-campus ceremony on Saturday, May 14. Pare, a resident of Ellington, graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in curriculum & instruction.

Stonehill College, Easton MA

  • Grace Caso and Ethan Peck, both of Ellington, made the Dean's List for the spring 2022 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, students must have a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better and must have completed successfully all courses for which they were registered.

University of Vermont, Burlington VT

  • Michael Carson of Somers graduated with a Bachelor of Science in secondary education - social science during commencement ceremonies in May. This year's commencement at the University of Vermont-the 221st in its history-marked a return to a traditional celebration outdoors on the University Green after two years of re-imagined ceremonies due to pandemic restrictions.
  • Kylie Fox, a biology major from Somers, has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2022 semester at the University of Vermont. Fox is in the College of Arts and Sciences. To be named to the dean's list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.
