More Great Accomplishments By Ellington, Somers College Students

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great feats will be noted as they are received in the coming weeks.

American International College, Springfield MA

• AIC is pleased to announce that 451 students have been named to the Dean's List for the fall 2023 semester. Dean's List students attend full-time and have achieved a 3.3 to 4.0 GPA. Honorees from Somers are Caroline Colton, Thomas Lafayette, Marissa Long, Brian McGowan, Mallory Murdza, Concetta Shewokis and Sarah Thiel.

The Citadel, Charleston SC

• Colby McCormick of Somers is among the more than 100 cadets recognized for their outstanding work during the fall 2023 semester. The President's List is one of the most distinguished cadet awards presented by The Citadel. The list is a combination of the dean's list and the Commandant's Distinguished List and is composed of cadets who contribute the most to their companies while maintaining excellent military and academic records. Gold stars are awarded to cadets and students at The Citadel who achieved a 3.7 grade point average or higher. Cadets and students who achieve gold star recognition are also placed on The Citadel's dean's list. Those cadets may wear gold stars on their uniforms throughout the semester following their academic achievement.

College of Charleston, Charleston SC

• Samantha Morrow of Ellington was named to the College of Charleston fall 2023 Dean's List (Distinguished). Morrow is majoring in communication. To qualify for Dean's List (Distinguished), students must earn a GPA of 3.500 or higher and complete a minimum of 12 semester hours.

College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee MA

• Melissa Bowerman, Francesca Cardinale, Sydney Kennison and Thomas Kennison, all of Somers, and James Maznicki of Ellington were named to the Dean's List for the fall 2023 semester.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

• Eastern Connecticut State University recently released its Dean's List for the fall 2023 semester, in which more than 1,300 students were recognized for maintaining high GPAs.
  Among the students are Ellington residents Shannon Carbonell, Jack Soto, Isabel Mund, Brendan Burke, Ethan Moser, David Pierce, Margaret Ritchie, Kush Patel, Caroline Gray, Isabella Piazza and Kalagena Sullivan, as well as Somers residents Grace Majowicz and Shannon Whalen. To qualify for Dean's List, full-time students must complete a minimum of 12 credits in letter-graded courses with an average GPA of 3.5 or higher in the semester.

University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa AL

• Peyton Kubas of Ellington was named to the University of Alabama Deans List for fall semester 2023. A total of 13,950 students enrolled during fall semester 2023 were named to the dean's list with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the president's list with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's)
