New Assistant Principals Hired At Ellington High School

The duo will replace a pair of departing administrators at Ellington High School.

ELLINGTON, CT — A pair of new assistant principals will be roaming thehalls of Ellington High School this fall, as the Board of Education unanimously approved their hirings Tuesday.

Brandon HuBrins and Marc Richard have been brought on board to replace Rebecca Aldred, who is the new principal at Windsor Locks High School, and Liz Cole, who will become Director of Career Technical Education for the Glastonbury Public Schools.

Hubrins comes to Ellington from the Hartford Public Schools, where he served as an assistant principal and social worker for Global Communications Academy – Kindergarten through
Grade 12. He received a Bachelors in Social Work from Alabama State University, a Masters in Social Work from the University of Connecticut and a 6th Year in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.

Richard comes to Ellington from the West Hartford Public Schools, where he served as a science teacher at Conard High School for 20 years. He earned a Bachelors in Meteorology from Lyndon State College in Vermont, a Masters in Earth Science from Mississippi State University and a 6th Year in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.

Ellington received applications from 93 people interested in the positions, and 23 candidates received a screening interview. Eleven candidates interviewed with a search committee comprised of administration, a Board of Education member, teachers, support staff, a parent and student. Five finalists then interviewed with the administrative team, the Board of Education, the high school principal and the superintendent for three additional interviews.

Kris Picard-Wambolt, a Board of Education member who served on the interview committee, said in a written statement, "We were fortunate to have a large pool of very qualified candidates, and I am confident Mr. HuBrins and Mr. Richard are the best of the best. Their unique and diverse talents are incredibly well suited to our district and will complete a tremendously strong, capable administrative team to lead Ellington High School."
