New Fundraiser Launched For Child's Memorial Park in Ellington

A foundation aims to build street hockey rink and Ninja Warrior-themed playground in Ellington in memory of a boy who died of cancer.

ELLINGTON, CT — The family spearheading efforts to build a street hockey rink and Ninja Warrior-themed playground in Ellington in memory of a boy who died of cancer has launched a new fundraiser to go along with a new location.

The playground had been designated for a corner of the Pinney Street athletic complex but the plans recently shifted to roughly 2 acres of a town-owned parcel off Miller Road. The land is currently leased by a local farm.

Jacob Roger Poulin of Ellington was a vibrant young hockey player and fan of the show American Ninja Warrior on April 2, 2016, when he was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma — a very aggressive brain tumor that affects only a few hundred children in the United States each year.

Jacob was 5 when he died on Oct. 1, his father's birthday. His mom went on the Show American Ninja Warrior in his honor.

The Jacob Roger Poulin Foundation was formed shortly after with the main goal being the playground and hockey rink.
