OPINION: Utility Prices And What We’re Doing In Hartford About It

ELLINGTON-EAST WINDSOR-VERNON, CT — We know families are struggling. Utility costs are high. Here's what we're doing in Hartford to try to alleviate that.
Senate Bill 7, which has bipartisan support including ideas from both democratic and republican leadership’s bills with similar goals. It promotes a more equitable and transparent energy market that works in the best interest of you, the energy consumer. The bill was voted out of the Energy and Technology Committee, of which I'm Vice Chair of, and it awaits action before the Senate.

Among the provisions of the bill:
- The utility companies can’t recover through rates (what you pay) any cost associated with membership, dues, sponsorships or contributions to a business or industry trade association or group.
- The utility companies can’t recover through rates any cost associated with lobbying or legislative action.
- The utility companies can’t recover through rates any cost associated with advertising, marketing, or any other related costs.
