Picture Somers - Then And Now
An old photograph and story from Somers history, and how that site appears today.

SOMERS, CT — Today we return to the amazing photo book, Images of America: Somers, compiled in 2001 by the Somers Historical Society. Our latest excursion takes us to page 20, and a look at the former Elm Knoll Preparatory School at 611 Main Street.
The house, built in 1795, served as a "select female seminary" run by Mary Chapin Pease, who was the second mistress of the Mount Holyoke Seminary. In 1925, the building was sold and converted into a pair of apartments. Neil and Debbie Farnham bought the property in 1985 and converted it into the Colonial Flower Shoppe, which still thrives today.
Here is a contemporary photo of the site, taken recently by yours truly.
