Picture Somers - Then And Now

An old photograph and story from Somers history, and how that site appears today.

SOMERS, CT — Today we once again visit the amazing photo book, Images of America: Somers, compiled in 2001 by Jeanne Kenyon DeBell for the Somers Historical Society. Our latest trip takes us to page 17, and a look at an historic building constructed in 1790.

The 2,708-square-foot structure at 577 Main Street, set on more than three-quarters of an acre, served as an inn for many years, known as the Elmwood House. It has been remodeled several times in the last 120 years, and is currently an apartment building.

Here is a contemporary look at the site, taken by me last month.
