Prison Inmate Charged for Osborn Escape Attempt

An inmate at Osborn Correctional Institution tired to escape in the fall, police said.

SOMERS, CT — An inmate at Osborn Correctional Institution was charged with attempted escape after being caught climbing a security fence during recess, state police said.

The incident involving 33-year-old Jean Massena, who state police describe in a warrant as a homeless man who frequents Manchester, took place on Nov. 12.

On that day, during an inmate recreation period, Massena climbed over an interior fence and ran toward the perimeter fences, according to a warrant. He was cut by barbed wire as he was trying to get over a perimeter fence and had to be "guided to the ground" by corrections officers.

He was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, according to a warrant.

Massena was hear muttering that he "wanted his freedom," according to a warrant. He has four pending cases, according to judicial system records.
