Robbery Suspect Tried To Break Into Somers Home After Crash: Cops
More charges have been filed in in a robbery that originated in Vernon and ended with a crash in Somers.

VERNON/SOMERS, CT — One of the suspects in a January robbery that originated in Vernon and ended with a crash in Somers has been charged by state police for his actions in a neighborhood after the crash, a report indicates.
Shakiem Anthony Dessasure, 19, of Chicopee, MA, was arrested during a court appearance in Rockville on Friday and charged with:
- Third-degree burglary
- Second-degree criminal trespass
- Interfering with officers
Another $5,000 was added to the half-million dollars he's already being held on, records show.

He is accused of running from police and banging on doors along the 300 block of Springfield Road in Somers — state Route 83 — after the crash, a warrant states. Barking dogs alerted neighborhood residents to his presence, according to a warrant.
At one house, Dessasure was yelling that he had been kidnapped and needed help, according to a warrant. He tried to push in a door at one residence but a resident kept him out, according to a warrant. He eventually entered a garage and was found near the home, according to a warrant.

For the robbery and subsequent chase, Dessasure has been charged with:
- First-degree robbery
- First-degree larceny
- Interfering with police
- First-degree threatening
- Criminal possession of a firearm
- Third-dehree criminal mischief
- Conspiracy charges related to larceny, robbery and threatening
Shane Sturgeon, 31, of Coventry, has been charged in rthe case with:
- First-degree robbery
- First-degree larceny
- Interfering with police
- First-degree threatening
- Criminal possession of a firearm
- Third-dehree criminal mischief
- Conspiracy charges related to larceny, robbery and threatening
- Engaging police in a pursuit
- Reckless driving
- Driving while under suspension
According to police reports, at 7:49 p.m. on Jan. 25, Vernon police received a report of an armed robbery at the Verizon Store located at 425 Talcottville Road. The clerk reported that two men entered the store, armed with handguns, and took cell phones and cash, police said.
The two men then fled in a vehicle, according to a report.
Vernon officers began to check the area for the vehicle and it was spotted on Route 190 near Hall Hill Road in Somers, according to a report.
A pursuit ensued and the chase continued east on Route 190 and north onto Route 83 and the vehicle crashed on Route 83, just north of Northwest Drive in Somers, police said. One of the suspects — Sturgeon — was taken into custody near the vehicle and a second suspect fled on foot, according to a report.
A Vernon police canine unit, along with Somers police and state police, searched for the
second suspect — Dessasure — and he was located outside a nearby house, according to a report.
