Slipper Day Brings Comfort and Creativity
Students of Ellington Center School display their creativity and uniqueness with slippers.
The halls of Ellington Center School were filled with an array of fuzzy, brightly colored and comfortable slippers on Feb. 25 as students and teachers alike participated in a creative event called "Slipper Day."
Each month, the entire school population is invited to take part in a special day that focuses on school spirit. Recently, this involved wearing slippers instead of shoes throughout the schoolday. Even the teachers get into the act, as preschool teacher Mrs. Connolly wore her favorite huge, fuzzy, pink, bunny slippers to teach her class that day.
"This is just one of our 'Spirit Days,'" Principal Trudie Luck Roberts said in February. "These types of activities give the children a chance to demonstrate their creativity and they enjoy being unique."

Students from third and fourth grades promote the day with announcements a few days prior and then calculate the percentages of participation per classroom.
The next "Spirit Day" is scheduled for the last Friday in March.
