'Small Explosion' Disrupts the Day at Somers High School
Police are investigating the Tuesday incident.

SOMERS, CT — A "small explosion" at Somers High School caused a minor disruption to the day on Tuesday, education and police officials said
The incident took place at 12:55 p.m., when a small explosion took place in the chemistry lab at the school, state police said.
One student suffered a minor injury and the school had to be evacuated.

Firefighters and EMS crews were called to the scene, state police said.
Nothing immediately appeared to be criminal in nature, and troopers were investigating into the afternoon, state police said.

At approximately 2:20 p.m. the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to check the air quality and students were dismissed for the day, state police said.
