Somers Fair To Mark 90th Celebration

SOMERS, CT — The Hartford County 4-H Fair will return to Somers next month for its 90th fair, bringing three days of livestock shows, rides, live music, demonstrations and family activities to the Four Town Fairgrounds.

The fair is scheduled for Aug. 14-16 at 56 Egypt Road. Fair hours are 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for seniors. Military members with identification and children ages 3 and under will be admitted free.

Organizers say the youth-run fair, held since 1937, will feature large- and small-animal exhibits including cattle, goats, rabbits, poultry, swine, sheep and alpacas, along with 4-H exhibits in areas such as food, photography, fine arts, flowers and vegetables.

Friday’s schedule includes opening ceremonies at 5 p.m., a Doodlebug Pull at 6 p.m., and music from To Be Continued Band from 6 to 9 p.m.

Saturday will include a Touch-a-Truck event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., magic shows, line dancing, a 90th-fair alumni reception at 4 p.m., a 90th-fair ceremony at 5 p.m., a chicken barbecue, live music from Face Down Band and the Horse Draw at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday’s events include a dairy breed show, Mad Science demonstration, donkey show, Doodlebug Pull, DJ and games, premier livestock showmanship and closing ceremonies.
