Somers, Ellington Ranked Among 'Best School Districts for Your Buck' in Connecticut

Consumer advocacy site NerdWallet ranks Somers 17th in the state, Ellington is No. 36.

The Somers and Ellington school districts offer parents some of the best values in Connecticut, according to a new study from consumer advocacy site NerdWallet.

NerdWallet used census and state education data to identify high quality schools in affordable communities - and out of 121 school districts Somers ranked among the top 20. NerdWallet used the following methodology:

  1. To determine school quality we looked at standardized test scores, college readiness and class size.
  2. School quality was then weighted against affordability metrics to produce a list that isn’t dominated by prohibitively expensive communities - all of the top 10 places have median home values under $350,000.

East Granby was at the top of the list, with a “Bang For Your Buck weighted score” of 83.32, Litchfield was second 83.28 and Stafford was third at 82.20.
