Somers FD Dedicates Training Site To Late Chief

The Somers Fire Department renamed its training facility April 22 in honor of a longtime member and former chief who died in 2020.

SOMERS, CT — The Somers Fire Department last weekend dedicated its training facility to a former fire chief who died in 2020.

At a special ceremony attended by much of the community on Saturday, April 22, the SFD dedicated its training center as the "Chief William 'Bill' Meier Jr. Training Center."

Meier was a longtime member of the SFD and was its chief from 2000-08. He died at the age of 69 in 2020.

The fire department wrote vial social media that Meier was "a teacher, mentor and friend to the many personnel who have come through the ranks of the fire department."

"Chief Meier’s legacy will live on through this facility for many years and we hope many generations of firefighters will be able to utilize it," wrote the fire department.
