New Fire Chief Takes Command In Somers

SOMERS, CT — The Somers Fire Department has named a new chief, promoting a longtime member of the department to its top leadership role.

Somers Fire Department officials announced that Ray Stovall has been hired as the town’s next fire chief. Stovall brings more than a decade of service with the Somers Fire Department, most recently serving as a captain. His background also includes additional years as a firefighter, fire officer, and emergency medical provider with departments across the region.

According to the department, Stovall holds numerous professional certifications and has extensive experience in leadership, training, and emergency response. Town officials said they are confident his experience and familiarity with Somers will help guide the department forward.

The announcement also recognized the service of David Lenart, who previously served as Somers fire chief. During his tenure, Lenart focused on improving staffing levels, expanding training programs, and strengthening the department’s operational capabilities, including fire suppression, technical rescue, and vehicle extrication.

Department officials said Lenart also began the process of acquiring new equipment, including a light-duty rescue truck and a utility terrain vehicle through a state program, which are expected to enhance the department’s ability to respond to a wide range of emergencies.

Town and department leaders thanked Lenart for his service and wished him well, while welcoming Stovall as the next fire chief for the Town of Somers.
