Somers Fire Department Responds to Injured Woman in Woods
Woman safely removed from woods, taken to hospital.

The Somers Fire Department, with aid from nearby companies, recently responded to a woman that had fallen about 1 mile in the woods behind a residence and safely secured her via a stokes basket and transported her out of the woods.

On Friday, Sept 5 at 2245 hours, the Somers Fire Department Ambulance and Johnson Medic (ASM) were dispatched for a female that had fallen in the woods behind a residence. Tolland County dispatch reported that the patient was approximately 1 mile in to the woods. Chief Schiessl requested the fire department to respond for additional manpower and equipment.

Upon reaching the patient, a UTV was requested from the Crystal Lake Fire Department to assist with removing the patient from the woods. Additional crews entered the woods to assist with packaging and removal. A second UTV was requested from the Hazardville Fire Department along with Enfield’s Special Operations team.
Crews secured the patient in a stokes basket and transported out of the woods on Crystal Lake’s UTV. The patient was removed from the woods and transported to St Francis hospital approximately 2 hours after the time of call. Lifestar was not available due to the weather. The Somers Fire Department would like to thank all the mutual aid companies that assisted and the West Stafford Fire Department for providing a cover assignment at Station 46.
