Somers To Host Veterans Coffeehouse With Talk On Trauma, Recovery

The Town Hall event will include coffee, conversation and a presentation by a Vietnam veteran and licensed therapist.

SOMERS, CT — Veterans in Somers will have a chance to gather for coffee, conversation and a discussion focused on trauma and recovery at an upcoming Veterans Coffeehouse at Town Hall.

The Somers Department of Veterans Affairs will host the event on Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in the Somers Town Hall Auditorium at 600 Main St. Organizers said the event is open to veterans, who are encouraged to attend and bring a guest. Free refreshments will be provided.

The program will include a special presentation on trauma and post-traumatic stress by Jim Caldwell, a U.S. Army veteran who served two tours in Vietnam.

According to organizers, Caldwell is a licensed marriage and family therapist with extensive experience working with veterans and others affected by trauma. His background includes work as a team leader at a VA Vet Center, service in higher education as an assistant professor of computer science, and decades of experience as a trainer, curriculum developer and mental health professional.

Officials said Caldwell specializes in PTSD treatment and has worked with individuals, couples and groups. His presentation is expected to last about an hour and will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

The event also comes just ahead of National Vietnam War Veterans Day on Sunday, March 29, giving the gathering added significance as a chance to recognize and honor Vietnam-era veterans.
