Augusta (Kettler) O’Hara, 91, of Palm City, FL was reunited with her late husband, Arthur P. “Art” O’Hara on Friday, February 26, 2016.
Augusta was born November 8, 1924, in Louisville, KY the daughter of the late Ralph and Gertrude (Lintker) Kettler. In 1942 Augusta graduated from St. Cecilia High School in Englewood, NJ and was voted “Best Natured”, a trait she possessed her entire life. She attended the Washington School for Secretaries in New York City followed by an exciting career as personal assistant to the Director of TV at NBC. She left her job when she married Arthur who throughout their 65 years of marriage would affectionately tease her for leaving a job that was more lucrative than his at the time.
Augusta married the love of her life, Arthur O’Hara, on September 17, 1949, and in 1955 they settled in Wilbraham, MA, where together they raised their four children. She enjoyed her volunteer work at the Mercy Hospital Gift Shop, was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed golfing at Longmeadow Country Club. In 1985 the couple moved to Somers. In 2005 they retired to Palm City, FL where they were enthusiastic supporters of the Florida Oceanographic Society. Augusta’s greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She treasured her annual summer vacation with family on Pleasant Lake, NH. Up until the day she died her fondest thoughts were of her family which brought “happy tears” to her sparkling eyes. Augusta was a faithful parishioner of the Holy Redeemer Church in Palm City, FL.
