Somers Obituary: Dorothy Shewokis, 86

Condolences are extended to her family and friends.

On September 9th 2018, our loving mother, Dorothy Alice (Fisck) Shewokis, 86 years young, entered into eternal rest after a courageous battle against Alzheimer’s disease. Dorothy was a longtime resident of East Hartford, moving to Somers in 2011 to be closer to her family.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Charles and her parents the late Mary and Gregory Fisck. Dorothy was a loving caring yet firm mother to her three children John Shewokis of Somers, James and Deanise Shewokis (who mom always considered her daughter she always wanted) of Somers, and Ken in South Carolina. Besides her three children Dorothy leaves behind two beautiful grandchildren, Kristopher Shewokis and his wife Jamie of Manchester, and her granddaughter Concetta Shewokis, daughter of James and Deanise of Somers along with her great granddaughter Jordon daughter of Kristopher and Jamie Shewokis. She also leaves behind her brother Raymond Fisck of East Hartford.

Dorothy graduated from East Hartford High School class of 1951. Never afraid of hard work or a challenge, Dorothy started picking tobacco in the fields of Manchester and East Hartford as a teenager and then moved on to the Travelers Insurance Company, J.M. Fields stores, and finally retired from the AARP medical pharmacy in East Hartford. Dorothy loved to work in different retail establishments.

Prior to her moving to Somers, Dorothy could often be seen cutting her grass, trimming hedges, and shoveling snow at her home on Forbes Street in East Hartford well into her mid-seventies. Dorothy also loved to bake and spend time with her” other children”, her loving cats who Dorothy took in as strays and provided them with a loving home.

Dorothy will be missed dearly. God finally took her home to the gates of heaven and has rid her tired body of much pain she endured in the last few years.
