Somers Obituary: Faye-Marie Bartlett, 92

Condolences to her family and friends.

Faye-Marie (Gracey) Bartlett, 92, of Somers, beloved wife of the late Frederick E. Bartlett, died Friday, October 2, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Springfield, MA on April 29, 1923, daughter of the late James H. Gracey and Margaret (Fahey) Gracey. Faye-Marie has resided in Somers for fifty years. She proudly served her country in the United States Navy during World War II as a registered nurse, stationed at St. Albans Naval Hospital in New York. Following her service, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Rochester. She returned to Springfield to care for her mother and work at Trade High School. A founding faculty member of Springfield Technical Community College, Professor Bartlett taught nursing until her retirement in 1988. Faye-Marie was a 35-year breast cancer survivor. Her interests were varied and included volunteering with Somers Meals on Wheels and Friends of the Library, spending time with family and friends, playing the piano, knitting, painting, reading, travel, and crossword puzzles.

She leaves two children, Paul F. Bartlett and his partner, Lenore Doxsee of Brooklyn, NY and Rena F. Bartlett of Brighton, MA and several nieces and nephews: Margaret Gracey Brena, Catherine Gracey Stevens, Janet Gracey D’Atri, Robert W. Bartlett, Linda Bartlett Burrowes, Phillip D. Bartlett, and Mark S. Bartlett. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, James Donald Gracey.

Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, October 6 at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main Street, Somers, at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at All Saints Church, 25 School Street, Somers at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at West Cemetery, Somers. Her family will receive friends on Monday, October 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Faye-Marie’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society – Breast and Reproductive Cancers, 825 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
