
Joan Guckel Stenger, 76, of Somers, passed away at home after a long illness on Saturday, October 17, 2015.
The daughter of the late John and Beatrice (Porch) Mann, Joan was born in Bridgeport. She was formerly employed by the Norwalk Public Schools where she taught for 34 years before retiring. Joan was an avid traveler who journeyed all over the world, but especially loved her monthly trips to the Somers Library where she read hundreds of their books. She also enjoyed scrapbooking and sewing.
She is survived by her son, William Guckel and his wife Diane (Cunningham) of Somers, her beloved grandchildren Matthew, Katie and Ben Guckel of Somers. She is also survived by her nephews Ed, Paul and Robert Mann, nieces Gretchen Mann-Fritch and Becky Mann, and several great-nephews and great-nieces. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward Mann of GT Barrington, MA and survived her sister-in-law and best friend, Matilda Mann of GT Barrington, MA.

Joan’s family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00 a.m.- 12:00 Noon Friday, October 23, 2015 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. The funeral service will follow the visitation hour at 12:00 noon. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the Somers Public Library,2 Vision Blvd., Somers, CT 06071.
