Residents can bring unused or expired medications to the Somers Fire Department on Saturday.

SOMERS, CT — Somers residents can safely dispose of unused or expired medications Saturday during a National Prescription Drug Take Back event at the Somers Fire Department.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the fire department, 400 Main St.

The Somers SHINE Coalition said residents are encouraged to clean out their medicine cabinets and bring unwanted medications for safe disposal.

Officials said medications should not be flushed or thrown away. Keeping current medications locked and out of reach of children and pets can also help prevent accidental harm.

The first 30 cars at the event will receive a special treat, according to the coalition.
