Somers Route 83 Roadwork

SOMERS, CT — The construction that will periodically put metal plates on Route 83 at Field Road over the next several weeks is part of a larger Connecticut Water replacement project expected to continue into September.

Connecticut Water plans to replace about 6,600 feet of existing water main with 8-inch ductile iron pipe on Colton Road, Kibbe Drive and South Road. The South Road portion runs from Lake Road to Somers Crossing Shopping Center and includes the Field Road intersection, where crews are tying in the new line.

The project is intended to increase available water flow and improve system reliability, according to Connecticut Water’s current-project listing. It also includes replacing three fire hydrants and work involving connections to 61 homes.

The utility lists April 1 as the approximate start date and September as the approximate completion date. Work is generally scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Connecticut Water said customers affected by any planned service interruption will be notified directly at least 24 hours ahead of time.

For now, Somers Public Works is advising motorists to slow down and use caution near Route 83, also known as South Road, and Field Road. Metal plates will cover the active work area at times.
