Somers Seeks Contractors For Playground Improvements

SOMERS, CT — A long-planned upgrade to Connor’s Place Playground is officially moving forward, with the Town of Somers seeking bids for a project focused on replacing and improving safety surfacing at the popular Field Road park.

Bid documents issued Feb. 4 describe a project centered on safety surfacing improvements at Connor’s Place Playground, 96 Field Road. The work includes materials and construction services tied to site improvements and playground surfacing installation.

Project Timeline

Sealed bids are due by 11 a.m. on March 18, 2026, at the Somers Town Clerk’s Office or electronically via email, at which time they will be publicly opened. Plans and specifications were scheduled to be made available on Feb. 18, 2026.

Project Scope

The base bid schedule outlines four major components: site preparation, sedimentation and erosion control, earthwork and grading, and playground installation and surfacing.

Contractors must agree to complete the work within 60 calendar days of the notice to proceed. The town may deduct $100 per day for delays beyond that time limit.

Surfacing Work At The Core

The specifications include resilient rubberized play surfacing, loose fill surfacing, and safety surfacing matting, along with turf and grass restoration. Bidders must also provide unit pricing for potential additional work, including extra rubber safety surfacing, engineered wood fiber surfacing, and safety surfacing matting.

Bid Requirements

The town requires a 5 percent bid bond and proof of experience. Qualified general contractors must have completed at least five similar projects within the past three years. Qualified playground surfacing subcontractors must have completed at least 15 similar surfacing projects within the past five years.

The selected contractor must also provide insurance meeting town requirements and list the Town of Somers as an additional insured.
