Happy 25th Anniversary! The Somers Senior Center was built in 1990 by the Somers Rotary Club. A celebration will take place on Monday June 29th from 1pm-3pm. Many special guests will be in attendance to help us recognize the importance of the Senior Center and to celebrate this milestone!
Certified Reiki Master Practitioner, Carleen Eve Fisher Hoffman, will be at the Somers Senior Center on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 9:30-12:30 to provide 20 minute Reiki sessions for $10 to our seniors. Call 1-413-525-7345 for an appointment.

On Friday June 12th at 1pm, we will welcome guest speaker Attorney George Bickford. Attorney Bickford’s session will present us with invaluable information for navigating the many diverse issues that face us as we age. The session may include basics of estate planning, trusts, probate, preparing for long term health care or any other issues we may be concerned about. Attorney Bickford has extensive experience in all areas of advocacy and planning for the elderly and disabled.
On Thursday June 18th at 12pm, join us for a catered BBQ Lunch to celebrate Father’s Day! Entertainment provided by the Humble Bees. Tickets are $5.00. Last day to purchase tickets is June 12th.

June’s Friday Matinee is “The Pursuit of Happyness”.Will Smith stars in this heart warming film inspired by the true story of Chris Gardner, a San Francisco salesman struggling to build a future for himself and his 5-year-old son. Just in time for Father’s Day, this film exemplifies the love of a father for his son and also shows us the amazing things we can accomplish through dedication and perseverance. Smith earned both Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for his role. Showtime is June 19th at 1pm.
The Somers Senior Center is offering 2 bus trips in June for Somers Seniors. The first is to The Carriage House at Storrowton Tavern on June 2 for a three course Surf ‘N” Turf meal and entertainment by Jimmy Mazz. $25 includes your meal and entertainment as well as tax and gratuity. Payment due upon sign-up. The second is to the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne, MA on June 8th. In 1928 the Shelburne Women’s Club sponsored the project of transforming a discontinued trolley bridge into the now beautiful Bridge of Flowers. Thousands of bulbs, perennials, annuals and flowering shrubs come into bloom throughout the year. There will be a stop for lunch at the West End Pub.
Day trips being offered (open to residents and non-residents) include Kennebunkport, Maine on July 15th, Newport, Rhode Island on August 19th, and Winnipesaukee Railroad in New Hampshire on September 29th! In Maine, you will enjoy a lobster dinner at Mike’s Clam Shack in Wells, a guided driving tour of Kennebunkport, and time to shop in the quaint village. Cost is $90 per person. In Newport, your trip includes lunch at George’s of Galilee, a one hour narrated harbor cruise, plus free time to walk the waterfront area all for just $108 per person. Climb aboard the Lake Winnipesaukee Railroad and enjoy the famous Hart’s Turkey Farm Dinner, a visit to Kellerhaus and the New Hampshire Liquor Shop. A gorgeous fall daytrip for just $95 per person.
Lastly, don’t miss out on the Somers Senior Center’s David Gwilliam Mohegan Sun Casino bus trip on Friday, July 24th. You do not have to be a senior or a resident of Somers. Passengers must be at the Somers Senior Center by 8:15am (Center opens at 8am). Bus will leave promptly at 8:30am and will return to the Center approx. 5:15pm. Trip cost of $20 includes round-trip deluxe bus, two Gambling Vouchers, Voucher towards the cost of lunch, and the Bus Driver’s Gratuity. Non-refundable payment is due upon sign-up.
