Somers Senior Center October News

The Somers Senior Center is located at 19 Battle Street in Somers, CT. You can contact us at 860-763-4379, find us on facebook under “Somers Senior Center” or visit us on www.somersct.gov. Sign-up is required for all events.

Health and Wellness classes are available to the Somers Senior Center! Zumba Gold (instructor: Liz Whiteley) is offered Mondays at 2:30pm at a cost of $4 per class for residents ($5 non-residents). Qigong Tai-Chi (instructor Stephen “Lucky” Luckingham) is offered Fridays at 8:30am at $5 per class (residents and non-residents). Please stop in to the Senior Center or call for more information! We also continue to offer Reiki on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. 20 minute sessions are available at a special discounted rate of $10 for our seniors, offered by Certified Reiki Master Practitioner, Carleen Eve Fisher Hoffman. Call 1-413-525-7345 for an appointment. You can also join us for chair aerobics on Mondays and Thursdays at 10am, free of charge.

Lifeline Screening is coming to the Somers Senior Center on 10/1. Call 1-888-653-6450 to register. We will also be partnering with Visiting Nurse & Health Services on Wednesday 10/21 to offer a Flu Clinic from 9am-11am. Medicare Part B, Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Connecticare, Healthy CT, or $35 cash accepted. United Health Care and Cigna cannot be accepted at this time. Call or stop in to schedule your appointment.

On Monday, October 5th, there will be a Lunch & Learn at 12pm. A representative from New England Gold Care, a new Adult Day Center having recently opened in Somers, will be at the Somers Senior Center to provide you with valuable information about their new facility.

Join us on Friday, October 16th at 1pm for a screening of the classic WWII film “The Dirty Dozen”. Popcorn will be served!

We are excited to present a “Choose Your Cruise” event! The Somers Senior Center is offering two cruises in 2016; a Bermuda Cruise aboard the Celebrity Summit from May 29-June 5 and a 15 day Autumn Repositioning Cruise aboard the Norwegian Dawn from October 28-November 11. Join us Monday October 19th at 11am to receive information on both options. Tours of Distinction will be presenting on the Autumn Repositioning Cruise at 11am and Friendship Tours will present on the Bermuda Cruise at 1pm. We will enjoy a light lunch in between! Sign-up required for lunch. These are informational sessions only and there is no commitment required.

The Somers Senior Center’s David Gwilliam Mohegan Sun Casino bus trip is happening on Friday, November 20th. You do not have to be a senior or a resident of Somers for this trip. Bus will leave promptly at 8:30am and will return at approximately 5:30pm. Trip cost of $20 includes round-trip deluxe motorcoach, two $10 Gambling Vouchers, a $15 food voucher, and the driver’s gratuity. Non-refundable payment is due upon sign-up. This is a fantastic deal!
