Somers Student Arrested for 'Racist' Gaffiti

The incident was at Somers High School, state police said.

SOMERS, CT — A student at Somers High School has been charged with desecration of property for allegedly placing "racist" themed graffiti at the school, state police said.

The student's name is protected by juvenile status under state law and state police did not elaborate on what the graffiti referenced.

The incident was on March 29 and the student was arrested on April 4, according to a state police report.

The student is due in court on April 17, state police said.

In a statement released Friday, Board of Education Chairman Bruce Devlin said the school recource officer is investigating the incident.

"This is an isolated incident that is not at all reflective at all of the students and atmosphere that I have experienced in our district.," he said.
