Somers Swears In First Female Officer

The department has a 70-year history.

SOMERS, CT — A veteran state trooper has become the Somers Police Department's first female officer.

Shannon Belcher was sworn in last week. Somers has employed resident troopers and local officers for 70 years, but has never had a female officer, town officials said.

She had retired from the Connecticut State Police after 25 years of service. Her tenure included stints at the Troop C barracks in Tolland — which covers Somers — and with the State Police Major Crimes Unit.
