Spielman Easily Wins Ellington Republican First Selectman Primary

Selectwoman defeats incumbent first selectman to become the likely new top official.

Selectwoman Lori Spielman received 64 percent of the vote in defeating incumbent Maurice Blanchette in a primary for the Republican first selectman position Wednesday.

Spielman, who edged Blanchette for the endorsement of town Republicans at a July caucus, collected 395 votes to 223 for Blanchette, who has served as first selectman for six years.

Spielman is likely the town’s next first selectman, as Democrats did not select a candidate to run for teh office.
