State Police Warning Residents About "United Nations" Package Security Scam

The letter is full of red flags and needs a teacher's red pen, state police said.

State police are warning area residents about a letter that appears to be from them and the United Nations about a "special delivery service" for security purposes.

The letter mentions a special “United Nations Delivery Van” tasked with taking over any delivery packages that are either "overweight" or for "anti-terrorist" or "drug abuse" reasons, state police said.

The van will deliver the "luggage" to "your doorstep," but a required fee of $1,970 is required, state police said the letter states.

Perhaps the biggest red flag in the letter are a bunch of bad spellings and grammatical errors, state police said.

"It's an an English teacher’s nightmare," state police said.

The suggestion?

"If you receive this letter or any other fraudulent payment requests please disregard and happily shred," state police said.
