Supermarket Employee Arrested for Theft

The man from Ellington also had drug residue on him and in his car, Vernon police said.

VERNON, CT - An Ellington man is facing a theft charge for allegedly stealing money from the Rockville Stop & Shop, were he was employed, Vernon police said.

Devaughn Porter, 22, of 12 Florence Ave., Ellington, is due before a judge on April 12 at Rockville Superior Court. He was arrested on Thursday on a fifth-degree larceny charge, police said.

That day, police were called to the Stop & Shop at 50 Windsorville Road by the store's security staff for an employee theft, according to an arrest report.

Police were told that store security cameras spotted Porter taking $120 that day, according to an arrest report. He allegedly took $970 from the supermarket over the past three weeks, according to an arrest report.

Police also found on Porter a shaved-off pen with residue on it that tested positive for heroin, according to an arrest report.

Police found a drug grinder, an empty bag that had contained heroin and traces of the drug THC in his car after a subsequent search, according to an arrest report. He was thus charged with possession of narcotics and the use of drug paraphernalia, according to an arrest report.
