Summer Palooza Surpasses Goal... THANK YOU

The organizers for the event entitled “Summer Palooza 2014” have announced that the goal of raising $6,000 to assist Somers High School student Alex Coverdill compete for team USA rowing , has been surpassed. Palooza was held Saturday June 7, 2014 at the Somers Knights of Columbus Hall.  “ I am happy to announce that we have reached our goal” Rich Tynan announced to the full house Saturday evening. “we did it thanks to you and so many of you who helped organize and run this event”. When the bills were paid the event cleared more than $6,800 including ticket sales, raffle proceeds, donations and chocolate sales.  “We did what we set out to do”, said Tynan. We do this twice a year. The Christmas event is for the Nick Coleman scholarships and the summer event is flexible. If there is no pressing issues we will fund the scholarship even more. But if there is a need we have the flexibility to respond to that issue”.

We try to have a good time, we offer great food, good raffle prizes and many door prizes. In all,  More than 70 prizes were distributed among the 170 attendees. “we also like to be creative in our decorating”. That is an understatement as the Knights dining hall featured a prominent all American theme as well as a 32 foot rowing shell on display with rowing oars suspended high above the crowd.  DJ Bob Lemieux handled the evenings music and the audience enjoyed a competitive karaoke contest as well as a hoola hoop contest won by Noreen Roy of Somers.

“We want to thank all of the people that donated to and attended this event. The people that sold tickets, made signs, printed tickets, made baskets. Fran Sullivan , who cooked for hundreds and donated so much of the food to the event.  The knights of Columbus for their generosity, local merchants and all who support children’s causes in and around Somers/Ellington.  We get to enjoy the summer now and then it is on to Winter Palooza to help next years graduates.”   We hope to see everyone there” Tynan said.
