Suspected Drunken Driver Flees Gas Pumps, Chased Down: Report

A suspected drunken driver fled gas pumps and was caught after a high-speed chase.

ELLINGTON, CT — A suspected drunken driver fled the gas pumps at the Five Corners rotary and was caught after a high-speed chase down an Ellington street, state police said.

On May 7 at 1:55 a.m., a state trooper was patronizing the Cumberland Farms at the rotary and noticed someone at the gas pumps who appeared to be intoxicated, according to a report. The man noticed the state police cruiser and immediately climbed back in his car and and started to leave, according to a report.

The trooper caught up to the car and the driver, identified as Kenneth Mandy, 49, of Ellington, tried to get away at a high rate of speed, but turned onto a "no outlet" street and was stuck, according to a report.

Mandy was charged with driving under the influence after failing field sobriety tests and also making an improper turn, according to a report.
