ELLINGTON, CT — A teen is facing a larceny charge after a wallet left behind by a mom at a popular ice cream stand was taken, state police said.

The incident took place on April 16 at the Dzen Garden Market at 187 Windsorville Road, which features a popular ice cream stand known for a variety of flavors. A 33-year-old woman told state police she was there getting ice cream with her children and put down her wallet, according to a warrant. She then put her kids in the family vehicle and drove off, forgetting the wallet was there.

The woman's husband went back to Dzen's but no one had returned the wallet, according to a warrant.

The owners of the ice cream shop reviewed surveillance video and noticed a "woman" take a wallet that was sitting on a napkin holder at the counter and hand it to a child, who then "ran" it to a car, according to a warrant. The wallet, valued at $50 itself, contained four credit cards, two debit cards and three gift cards with a combined value of $250, a warrant states.

State police also discovered a Paypal account sep up with one of the credit cards from the wallet, according to a warrant. The teen admitted taking the wallet because of its designer brand but then said she lost track of it, according to a warrant.
