Teen Jogger Hit By Vehicle In Ellington

ELLINGTON, CT — A teenage jogger was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon in Ellington, according to a Connecticut State Police crash report.

The crash happened at about 3:57 p.m. Aug. 28 on Frog Hollow Road near its intersection with Crane Road.

Police said the 17-year-old was jogging south from Crane Road and was crossing Frog Hollow Road to run along the south side of the roadway when he was struck by a westbound 2026 Lexus TX 350.

The teen suffered scrapes and abrasions but was conscious and alert after the crash, according to the report. Police described the injuries as appearing minor at the scene.

Ellington EMS treated him before taking him to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for further treatment.

The 42-year-old Ellington woman driving the Lexus was not injured. Two children who were passengers in the vehicle also were not hurt, according to the report.

The Lexus sustained minor damage to its right front corner, including the fender, bumper and hood.

Police said statements from the driver and two independent witnesses indicated the jogger ran in front of the vehicle without looking and that the driver did not have enough time to avoid the collision.

The report lists the pedestrian as being in violation of Connecticut General Statutes Section 53-182, which covers pedestrian use of the roadway.

No violation or charge against the driver was listed in the crash report.
