Tri-Town Edged in Division III Hockey Quarterfinals

The tri-op from Ellington, Somers and East Windsor dropped a heartbreaker Thursday night to end its season.

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — A pair of teams containing student-athletes from Hartford County schools will be facing off next week to determine one of the finalists in the Division III boys ice hockey championships.

Second-seeded WMRP defeated the No. 7 Redhawks of St. Bernard, Norwich Free Academy, Bacon Academy, Stonington and Lyman Memorial by a 3-1 count Thursday night at the Northford Ice Pavilion. Meanwhile, at the Danbury Ice Arena, No. 6 Hall/Southington upended third-seeded Housatonic/Northwestern, also by a 3-1 score, to punch its ticket to the Final Four.

WMRP, consisting of players from Wethersfield, Middletown, Rocky Hill and Plainville, will meet Hall/Southington in the semifinals on Tuesday, March 14 at the Ingalls Rink at Yale University.
