Each year, in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes Section §9-32, the Somers registrars of voters conducts an annual random canvass of active registered voters to determine their continued eligibility. Those voters who received a canvass letter, but did not return their form indicating their continued residence in Somers had their active voter status changed to inactive.
In 2017, the number of registered voters removed or made inactive was over 1,500.
Residents of Somers can verify their active status as voters by going to Voter LookUp Tool and filling in their name and birthday.

After the search, if the message states "name cannot be found" the voter is no longer on the active list, and if they wish to continue to vote, they must re-register either by registering online at OnLine Voter Registration or by going to Voter Registration Card, filling out the voter registration form, printing it out, then sign and date it, and mail it to the following address: Registrars of Voters, 600 Main Street, P.O. Box 308, Somers, CT 06071.
A copy of the list of inactive voters is also posted on the main bulletin board in Town Hall. Residents can stop by and check their status there as well. The Town Clerk has voter registration forms if the registrars are not available.
