1 Confirmed Dead in Enfield Highway Crash

A vehicle went down an embankment off I-91 and wound up on a street below, police said.

ENFIELD, CT — One person is confirmed dead and another seriously injured in a horrific crash on Interstate 91 northbound in Enfield Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 2:17 p.m. between exits 46 and 47, at the overpass to Oliver Road. A vehicle crossed all lanes of the highway and rolled over onto Oliver Road below, state police said.

Two occupants of the vehicle were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, one with life-threatening injuries and one with possible serious injuries. Police reported one of the victims subsequently succumbed to injuries.

No identities have yet been released.

Enfield police blocked off both entrances to Oliver Road, at Route 5 and at Plainfield Road.

State police from Troop H in Hartford are handling the investigation.
