2 Robberies Being Investigated in Enfield

One of the robberies involved a gun, and police are searching for suspects in both cases.

ENFIELD, CT — Enfield police were kept quite busy Saturday night, with pair of robberies occurring less than an hour and a half apart.

The first incident took place at 8:34 p.m. in the parking lot of the Big Y Supermarket on Palomba Drive, when a male and female employee of the store called police and said they were robbed by a tall black man and a medium heavy-set Hispanic woman. The victims were assaulted, with the female victim sustained a minor injury when her head was smashed into a wall, Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said.

The robbers stole a cell phone and a wallet, then fled in a dark vehicle which had been parked near the adjacent Tractor Supply store, Sferrazza said.

Less than 90 minutes later, at 9:57 p.m., an armed man robbed the Spirit Halloween store in the Stateline Plaza on Elm Street. Three employees said a man wearing dark pants, a dark hoodie, a mask over his face and prescription glasses brandished a black revolver with a long barrel and ordered them to empty their pockets, Sferrazza said.

The robber stole a cell phone and a pocket knife from one of the employees, then ordered a manager to empty the cash register, which contained over $1,500, into a small black plastic bag. He then walked the employees to an office and had one of them open the safe, pilfering an additional $300 for a total take of $1,845, Sferrazza said.

"The suspect told the employees to stay in the back and not look, or he would start shooting," Sferrazza said.

He is described as a white man, standing 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-4.
