3 Enfield Men Charged in Burglary Spree

One of the men had been released from the Enfield police lockup just hours before the burglaries took place.

ENFIELD, CT - Three young men from Enfield, including a pair of brothers, were taken into custody on the Fourth of July in connection with a series of burglaries in the northern end of town.

Bradford West, 23, his brother Jared West, 19, and Michael Damato, 24, were all charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree larceny. The West brothers were additionally charged with third-degree criminal mischief.

The first burglary was at the Holiday Inn on Brightmeadow Boulevard, where a computer charger and an iPad were taken from an office, and the hotel bar had been broken into and liquor stolen, Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said.

In early afternoon, a homeowner at 120 Brainard Road discovered their house had been burglarized, with about $2,500 worth of items taken, including a laptop and a large jug of coins, Sferrazza said.

Police canvassed the neighborhood, and a resident stated they had seen two white men, both of whom appeared intoxicated, walking in the backyard of the Brainard Road house. Another witness reported seeing two men walking in nearby Brainerd Park, carrying a large jug, Sferrazza said.

Officers tracked the West brothers down at Damato's home on Standish Street. Damato claimed one of the Wests had woken him up and asked him to drive them to the Holiday Inn, the chief reported.

Surveillance video from the hotel showed Bradford West in a hallway, then later footage recorded at 3:28 a.m. showed both brothers in the hall, Sferrazza said.

Jared West had been arrested in Enfield at 11:07 p.m. Sunday on charges of operating under the influence. Judicial records show he had recently been released from prison after serving a six-month sentence.

Bond information for the three suspects was not immediately available.
