4 Heroin Overdoses Reported In Enfield Tuesday

The drug overdoses all came within a three-hour timeframe, according to police.

ENFIELD, CT — An apparent "bad batch" of heroin resulted in at least four overdoses in Enfield within a three-hour time span late Tuesday afternoon and evening.

According to Police Chief Carl Sferrazza, police and emergency medical personnel responded to reported overdoses at:

  • Post Office and Raffia roads in a field inside a vehicle at 4:12 p.m.;
  • Beech Road, involving a motor vehicle accident, at 5:01 p.m.;
  • Food Bag parking lot on Hazard Avenue in Scitico at 6:09 p.m.;
  • Cornell Drive in Green Manorville at 7:17 p.m.

None of the overdoses resulted in a fatality, Sferrazza said. Enfield emergency medical services chief Gary Wiemokly said Narcan was administered to three of the four overdose patients.

In each instance, the heroin appeared to have been packaged in a green bag, leading police to believe it all came from the same source, Sferrazza said.

"In my opinion, heroin itself is a poison, but this particular poison could be deadly," the chief said.
