ENFIELD, CT —The Enfield Planning and Zoning Department is warning residents about a scam in which impostors are posing as department officials to solicit fraudulent payments.
Officials said they have received reports of emails sent to applicants claiming additional fees are required for application approval.
The messages are not legitimate, the department said.
“We never ask for additional payments through wire transfer,” the department said in a notice. “Fees for any applications are discussed in person with the applicant.”
The department said legitimate email communications will only come from verified accounts, including addresses ending in enfield.org or opengov.com, or from .
Residents who receive suspicious messages are urged not to respond, click links, or share personal information. Instead, they should document the communication and report it to the department at 860-253-6355.
