Free Farmers Market Food Available To Qualifying Enfield Seniors

Enfield's social services department has $40 farmers' market vouchers for eligible seniors.

ENFIELD, CT — Eligible older adults in Enfield can receive a $40 benefit card through the federal Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, which supports access to fresh, locally grown foods.

According to the Enfield Social Services Department, the program is available to residents age 60 or older, or individuals who are disabled and living in congregate housing where meals are provided.

Applicants must also meet income guidelines set by the program.

According to program materials, annual income limits are $29,526 for a one-person household, $40,034 for two people, $50,542 for three, and $61,050 for four.

Monthly limits range from $2,461 for one person to $5,088 for a household of four.

Benefit cards can be used statewide at participating farmers' markets and farm stands. Cards are valid from June 1 through Nov. 30.

The deadline to receive a benefit card is Sept. 30.
