2-Alarm Enfield House Fire

ENFIELD, CT — A two-alarm fire broke out late Sunday night at a multi-family home on Maple Avenue, prompting a regional mutual aid response while Enfield’s fireworks show was underway.

Crews were called to 34 Maple Ave. shortly after 10 p.m. for a working structure fire at a two-story, wood-frame multi-family home, according to fire officials.

As the incident grew, a second alarm was requested and Task Force 52 was activated for mutual aid. South Windsor Fire Department officials said the department responded as part of the statewide fire service task force.

South Windsor firefighters said some Enfield fire apparatus were already committed to the town’s fireworks detail when the fire broke out. Mutual aid companies were directed to stage at Enfield Square before assisting with coverage and other calls, according to the department.

South Windsor’s Squad 2 and Car 11 responded to the staging area, handled two incidents unrelated to the fire, and were later reassigned to provide station coverage in Enfield with other Task Force units, according to the department. South Windsor’s rehab unit was also specially called to the fire scene to support firefighters working at the fireground.

The fire displaced four families, according to CT Insider. No injuries were reported, all residents escaped safely and firefighters rescued a dog from the home, the outlet reported, citing Thompsonville Fire Chief David Deskis.

CT Insider reported the fire may have been sparked by fireworks, though the cause remains under investigation by the fire marshal. The home was heavily damaged and ruled uninhabitable by the local building inspector, according to the report.

South Windsor crews returned shortly after 1 a.m., the department said. Firefighters remained at the Maple Avenue scene until about 2:30 a.m. Monday.
