ENFIELD, CT — A man was arrested after a homeowner in Enfield's Hazardville section displayed a legally possessed firearm during an alleged early-morning break-in Sunday, police said.
Police identified the suspect as Timothy Grigg, 54. Officers were dispatched at about 5:54 a.m. Aug. 2 for a report of a burglary in progress at a residence, according to Enfield police.
Investigators said Grigg entered the home through a rear hatchway. The homeowner prevented him from continuing inside by displaying the firearm, police said, and Grigg fled on foot before officers arrived.
As he left the yard, police said Grigg made howling and squealing noises, tried to throw several metal chairs at the homeowner and threw a flowerpot at the front door.
Police said they later determined Grigg had also tried to smash a window and kick in the front door at another nearby home, and kicked dents into the side of a truck parked along the road. Officers took him into custody on a nearby property.
Grigg was charged with second-degree burglary, attempted second-degree burglary, disorderly conduct, two counts of third-degree criminal trespass, second-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, attempted second-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief and third-degree criminal mischief, police said.
