Morgan's family said he worked in commercial flooring and was the father of two young sons. Loved ones remembered him as a proud father who enjoyed the beach, scary movies and wrestling.

Joshua Freitag, 33, of Somers, was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder, home invasion and two counts of risk of injury to a child, according to an arrest report released by State Police. He was held on a $1.5 million cash-or-surety bond and is scheduled to appear Wednesday in state Superior Court in Rockville.

Troopers from Troop C in Tolland were called to South Road around 4 a.m. Tuesday for a disturbance involving gunfire. Freitag was outside the home when they arrived and was detained without incident, the report said.

The 911 caller told investigators that Freitag forced his way into the house and shot Morgan in a second-floor bedroom. Troopers and other emergency personnel tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene around 4:20 a.m.

Two minor children and the 911 caller were inside the home when the shooting occurred, but none of them was injured, police said. Morgan's next of kin was notified at the scene.

The state Department of Children and Families told NBC Connecticut that it is investigating the incident in connection with State Police. Somers First Selectman Tim Keeney said local schools had been notified and were making resources available.

Police have not disclosed a possible motive or explained how Freitag and Morgan knew each other. The investigation remains active.
